Polymer clay canes

I'm always amazed at the amount of variety of designs one can get from using just 2 or 3 colors of clay.

On the right, you're seeing different canes that all came from the checkerboard at left which was made from a red clay and a light beige.
The checkerboard is compressed on the diagonal to create "leaves" or "petals"(topmost cane).  The petals then were made into the flower cane which you're seeing reduced to 4 different sizes.  I actually don't care for this flower cane but it is a great illustration of canes in the making.  On the next page, you can see what happens when greens are combined to make leaves.
